Jamshedpur, Mar 17: While many see waste as mere trash, an exceptional artist from Kadma, Jamshedpur, breathes new life into discarded materials through her remarkable artistry. With her magical touch, she transforms what seems useless into stunning works of art.
Art is not just about colors; it is a journey of self-discovery and passion. Sagarika Bhowmik’s story embodies this sentiment—her struggles shaped her into the artist she is today. They say that determination paves the way for dreams to come true and Sagarika’s journey is a testament to this belief.
Once aspiring for a career in fashion design, financial constraints led her to pursue a conventional degree instead. To become self-reliant, she worked as an HR Talent Acquisition Specialist in Pune for 5.3 years. However, fate had other plans.
In 2019, she lost her job, leaving her future uncertain. It was then that she rediscovered her passion for painting. While decorating her hostel room, she realized that art was her true calling. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, she returned to Jamshedpur, where this challenging period allowed her to recognize her hidden talent. Though always inclined toward creative arts, she never received formal training. A self-taught artist, Sagarika honed her skills through online research, tutorials and relentless practice.
With her talent and determination, she founded Kanvastory, a home-based art and painting shop where she showcases and sells her handmade artwork. Her collection includes Vastu paintings, glass portraits, textured art, acrylic paintings, theme-based artwork, glass paintings, bottle art and more. Her goal is to provide aesthetic and artistic pieces at affordable prices for people from all walks of life.
Her work has been exhibited multiple times at Jamshedpur’s popular Jam Street, where her art stalls have attracted many visitors. So far, she has successfully sold over 50 artworks. Her paintings reflect a unique blend of colors, imagination and deep emotions, captivating every viewer. But her art is not just about decoration—she also uses it to raise awareness about social issues. She firmly believes that “everything discarded can be repurposed into something beautiful,” and her work proves this philosophy.
Sagarika’s journey as an artist was not easy, but her family stood by her throughout. Her father, retired for 14 years and her homemaker mother played a crucial role in supporting her passion. Now, she aspires to take her art to a larger audience. Her dream is to have her artwork exhibited nationally and internationally while establishing Kanvastory as a recognized brand.
“Every piece of art tells a story and I want to share mine with the world through my creations.” – Sagarika Bhowmik
