Jamshedpur: EPFO simplifies online profile update process

Jamshedpur, Jan 20: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has streamlined the process of updating member profiles, making it faster and more efficient for members with Aadhaar-validated Universal Account Numbers (UAN). The initiative aims to enhance member services and ensure the accuracy of personal data in EPFO’s database.

Under the revised process, members can directly update details such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, marital status and employment dates without uploading any documents. For UANs issued before October 1, 2017, updates will require only the employer’s authentication.

“This simplification will significantly reduce delays and ensure uniformity of data,” an EPFO official said. “Members now have greater control over their data, ensuring quicker resolution of requests.”

Previously, updates required members to upload documents and wait for employer and EPFO approvals. Out of the 8 lakh correction applications received in FY 2024-25, about 45% of these requests can now be self-approved by members, eliminating the average 28-day employer authentication delay. Additionally, for cases without full e-KYC, 50% of requests will be approved at the employer level without EPFO intervention.

The changes are expected to benefit approximately 3.9 lakh members with pending requests. Members with existing requests can cancel them and use the new process for quicker updates.

With 27% of member complaints related to KYC and profile issues, the revised process is projected to reduce grievances. Employers, too, will experience reduced workloads for verification, boosting ease of doing business.

“The updated system not only simplifies lives but also minimizes errors, ensuring efficient service delivery,” the official added.

This move reinforces EPFO’s commitment to member-centric reforms and delivering seamless, hassle-free services.
