Jamshedpur, May 31: In a major operation, encroachments were cleared from Gwala Basti in the Sonari police station area of Jamshedpur.

The operation targeted commercial buildings and houses that were illegally occupying the area.

With the assistance of bulldozers, Tata Steel and the district administration undertook the task of removing the encroachments.

However, the operation was not without incident, as a scuffle broke out between a young man and the Circle Officer during the process.

The removal of encroachments was carried out under the supervision of JNAC and Jamshedpur CO Amit Srivastava, with the support of additional police forces and Sonari police. Prior notice had been issued regarding the impending action.

Despite efforts by local MLA Banna Gupta to advocate for the residents, the encroachments were still cleared from the area.

MLA Saryu Roy had also visited the site earlier, resulting in the partial demolition of a few shops while ensuring the preservation of residential structures.

During the operation, it was ensured that no residential houses were demolished. However, several commercial shops were indeed removed.
The removal of the encroachments was met with slight protests from the local residents, expressing their discontent with the action taken.
