Jamshedpur, Sept 27: A tragic mishap struck the Mango Chhath Ghat on Saturday when a differently-abled elderly man was swept away by the strong currents of river Subernarekha .
According to witnesses, the man had placed his shoes and walker at the riverbank before stepping into the water for a ritual bath.
Moments later, the powerful current caused him to lose his footing, pulling him into deeper waters. Onlookers attempted a rescue, but he had already been carried away.
The Mango police were alerted immediately and arrived at the scene. While the man’s shoes and walker were recovered, his identity remains unknown.
Police authorities were preparing to deploy divers for the ongoing search operation.

On Saturday, he had come alone, tragically falling victim to the river’s swift flow.
The incident has left the community mourning, and the police continue to investigate while search efforts in the river continued.
