Rice, which was given to green card holders in April, is being distributed in December. The beneficiaries of the green ration card made under the Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme implemented in the state on the lines of the National Food Security Act, have to wait for eight months for food grains.
More than six and a half thousand green ration cards have been canceled in East Singhbhum in the last one year. People have applied for PH category ration card made under the new National Food Security Act. After receiving the rice for the first month of the financial year 2023-24 in December, timely distribution of food grains for the entire year has become a big challenge.
On the lines of the Central Government, the Jharkhand Government had assured the poor people through Green Ration Card that no one will be allowed to die of hunger. In such a situation, due to the delay of eight months in the distribution of ration, the card holders themselves are raising questions on the appropriateness of the scheme.
Through Green Ration Card, rice is given at the rate of 5 kg per card holder to the family members.
