Central puja committees gives Rs 1 lakh compensation to deceased’s families
Jamshedpur, October 25. The issue of paying compensation to the deceased family members in an accident during Durga Puja immersion on Tuesday evening at Beli Bodhanwala Ghat under Bistupur police station could not reach any conclusion on Wednesday.
A meeting was held at the Kitadih Durga Puja pandal on Wednesday on paying compensation to the families of the deceased and was attended by Dhalbhum SDO Piyush Sinha, Central Durga Puja committee president Achintam Gupta, vice-president Ashutosh Singh and member of Kitadih Durga Puja committee along with BJP district president Gunjan Yadav.
In the meeting, a demand was made to give compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of the deceased. However, no concrete statement was made by the district administration in this matter.
The SDO said that a nodal officer will be appointed so that reconciliation can be achieved with the families of the dead and injured. He assured that the district administration is fully prepared and all possible help will be provided.
The Central Durga Puja Committee announced immediate compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the family members of the deceased.
Gunjan Yadav, held the district administration negligence as responsible for this incident. He claimed that there was neither any lighting arrangement at the ghat nor was there an ambulance or crane present.
He said that a demand letter related to this has been submitted to the district administration and a demand has been made to give compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the family of the deceased.
He said that health minister Banna Gupta took stock of the incident but is still maintaining silence regarding compensation.
Incidentally, during the immersion on the late evening of Tuesday, the truck carrying the idol of Jugsalai Naya Bazaar Puja Committee went out of control and rolled backwards on the slope at Bailey Bodhan Ghat.
Due to this, half a dozen people present at the immersion ghat were hit by the truck, two people died in this accident. Three people have been injured. All are undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH).
