Jamshedpur: Doctors address key obstetric complications at JOGS 51st annual conference

Jamshedpur, Aug 4: The two-day 51st annual conference of the Jamshedpur Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (JOGS) concluded on August 4.

The event, supported by JOGS’ Patron Dr. Alok Devdas, President Dr. Binod Agarwal, Secretary Dr. Sarita Kumari, Vice President Dr. Swati Singhal, Dr. Valsala, and the Executive Team, focused on the theme ‘Preventive Obstetrics and Gynaecological Oncology.’

On the second day, Dr. Lily Vyas from Jaipur discussed the causes and prevention of oligohydramnios during pregnancy, while Dr. Nuzhat Aziz from Hyderabad focused on preventing foetal death.

Dr. Sheela Mane from Bengaluru conducted a PPH drill on managing excessive bleeding during delivery.

A panel discussion on high blood pressure in pregnancy was led by Dr. Nivedita Dutta from Bokaro, with participation from Dr. Swati Singhal, Dr. Valsala, Dr. Somnath Ghosh, Dr. Mousami Das Ghosh, Dr. Pantobi, and Dr. Ranju Jha.

Dr. Mamta Rath Dutta from Jamshedpur spoke on foetal growth retardation, and Dr. Sangeeta Singhal emphasized cervical cancer screening and the importance of timely vaccination.

Dr. Indu Chauhan presented on new fertility inventions, and JOGS President Dr. Binod Agarwal discussed infertility causes in men and women.

Earlier, the conference was inaugurated on August 3 by Chief Guest Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Dean of Manipal Medical College, Jamshedpur, and Guest of Honour Dr. Vinita Singh, GM Medical Services (Designate) at Tata Main Hospital. Over 150 gynaecologists from Jamshedpur and across Jharkhand, including renowned professionals from across country participated in the seminar.

IMA Jamshedpur President Dr. G.C. Majhi, Secretary Dr. Saurabh Chaudhary, senior doctors, and Pragya Banerjee, daughter of JOGS founder the late Dr. S. Dasgupta, were also in attendance.

The conference featured insightful presentations, including a talk by Dr. Arunabha Roy from Calcutta Medica on robotics in gynaecological cancer. An obstetrics quiz conducted by Dr. Archana Rai kept the attendees engaged and excited. Dr. Abha Rani Sinha from Patna addressed liver-related issues during pregnancy, while Dr. Asha Jain from Raipur discussed the importance of timely ultrasound examination for pregnancy and delivery complications.

A significant highlight was the recognition of esteemed gynaecologists Dr. Shashi Chawla, Dr. Seshi Iyer, and Dr. Tripta Kaur, who were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The conference also promoted environmental awareness, with JOGS President Dr. Binod Agarwal and other gynaecologists planting 87 trees in and around Jamshedpur under the Green Jamshedpur initiative.

The evening cultural program, organized by Dr. Asha Gupta, saw lively performances by several doctors, including Dr. Binod Agarwal, Dr. Manjulata Srivastava, Dr. Vanita Sahay, Dr. Sanyukta Nanda, Dr. Dorothy, and Dr. Nisha Yadav. A group dance led by Dr. Swati Singhal, Dr. Renuka Chaudhary, Dr. Indu Chauhan, and Dr. Sajal added to the festive atmosphere.
