Jamshedpur, August 4: The Vascular Society of India, supported by Tata Steel, successfully hosted a walkathon in Jamshedpur today in observance of National Vascular Day. The event, themed “Amputation Free World,” aimed to raise awareness about the prevention and treatment of vascular diseases, which are significant causes of amputation.

Held for the first time in Jamshedpur, the walkathon began at 6 AM near the JRD Tata Sports Complex main gate, covering a distance of 2.5 kilometers.

The event was flagged off by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, in the presence of Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety, Health, and Sustainability at Tata Steel; Shailesh Kumar Singh, Deputy President of Tata Workers’ Union; Dr. Sudhir Rai, General Manager of Medical Services at Tata Steel and a member of the Vascular Society of India; and Dr. Prashant Raman, a vascular surgeon at TMH and also a member of the Vascular Society of India, Dr. G. Pradeep Kumar, Dean & Professor of Forensic Medicine, Manipal Tata Medical College, senior management and staff of TMH, among others.

The event saw around 300 enthusiastic participants demonstrating strong community support for the cause.
“We hope to inspire people to adopt healthier lifestyles through this walkathon,” said Dr. Sudhir Rai.

Vascular diseases, affecting the body’s blood vessels, are a major health concern in India, accounting for 40-50% of all amputations. Risk factors include smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and high blood cholesterol. The walkathon aimed to educate the public on the risk factors, symptoms, and treatments available for vascular diseases.
This event was part of a nationwide initiative across 34 cities to spread awareness about the preventable and treatable nature of vascular diseases.
