Jamshedpur devotees perform rituals to mark the third Monday of Saawan

Jamshedpur: The city witnessed a vibrant display of devotion and fervor as devotees thronged various temples to perform rituals marking the third Monday of the auspicious Saawan month. This sacred period, dedicated to Lord Shiva, saw devotees gathering in large numbers at prominent temples in Bistupur, Sakchi, Kadma, and Jugsalai.

From the early hours of the morning, the air was filled with the sounds of conch shells, bells, and devotional hymns as devotees, dressed in traditional attire, made their way to the temples. The atmosphere was electric, with the fragrance of incense and flowers enhancing the spiritual ambiance.

The famous Beldih Kalibari temple in Bistupur was a focal point of devotion. Long queues of devotees, some holding offerings of milk, honey, and bel leaves, a sacred plant in Hindu mythology, were seen patiently waiting for their turn to perform the ‘Abhishek’ (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Linga. Temple priests, clad in saffron robes, guided the devotees through the rituals, chanting mantras and offering blessings.

Anita Devi, a regular visitor to the temple, shared her thoughts, “Saawan is a very special month for us. Every Monday, we come here to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. It brings peace and prosperity to our families.”

The Sakchi Shiv Mandir also saw a significant influx of devotees. The temple premises were adorned with colorful decorations, and the Shiv Linga was beautifully decorated with flowers. Special ‘aartis’ (prayer rituals) were performed, accompanied by melodious bhajans (devotional songs) sung by local artists. The temple management had made elaborate arrangements to manage the crowd, ensuring a smooth flow of devotees.

Rajesh Kumar, a devotee from Sakchi, remarked, “The energy here is amazing. Participating in the rituals and singing bhajans together with other devotees brings a sense of community and spiritual fulfillment.”

In Kadma, the Shiv Temple was abuzz with activity. Devotees offered ‘Jalabhishek’ (water offering) to the deity, a ritual believed to purify the mind and soul. The temple’s serene environment provided a perfect backdrop for meditation and prayer. Many devotees, including young children and elderly, could be seen engrossed in prayer, their faces reflecting deep devotion.

Shalini Mishra, a resident of Kadma, expressed her feelings, “Coming to the temple during Saawan gives me immense peace. It’s a time to connect with the divine and seek blessings for the well-being of our loved ones.”

The Shiva temple in Jugsalai was no different, with throngs of devotees participating in the rituals. The temple courtyard was filled with the sound of devotional music and the sight of colorful rangolis (traditional decorative patterns) made by the women devotees. Special arrangements were made for ‘prasad’ (sacred food offerings) distribution, ensuring that every devotee received the blessings of the Lord.

Prakash Sharma, a devotee from Jugsalai, noted, “The temple is like a second home to me during Saawan. The rituals, the music, and the sense of devotion in the air make it a truly divine experience.”
