Jamshedpur, Sept. 6: Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar late last night visited various areas to take first hand appraisal of implementation of lockdown and social distancing guidelines.
During the inspection, he checked the commuters on the streets and instructions were issued on spot directing bike riders to follow social distancing norms. He informed the riders that pillion riding is banned and people must adhere to it.
The DC emphasised that wearing masks and use of hand sanitizers are compulsory for all people who visit for shopping, he further reiterated that social distancing should be maintained at all markets to prevent spread of COVID-19 virus.
During the inspection, DC directed the local authorities to ensure that all restrictions are strictly enforced and no complacency shall be accepted which would defeat the purpose of containing COVID-19 virus spread.
Taking strong note of movement of vehicles at night with people not wearing masks, DC said that
crowding at many places is a cause of concern. People continue to gather around in the city without any purpose.
He said maintaining social distancing norms, wearing masks and sanitising shops twice a day has also been made mandatory as per the directions of the Union Home Ministry. He further noted that people should avoid street food.
As part of the guidelines on COVID-19 management under Disaster Management Act 2005, Jamshedpur police have also put completely pillion riding on two wheelers.
The rules include – ban on pillion riding on two wheelers and incase of cars, only driver and one person on the back seat is allowed and wearing of face masks has been made compulsory. The police today embarked on drive to nab those violating orders.
The administration has also made it mandatory for everyone to wear a mask (either three-layered or made of cloth) if they are outside their homes. And those violating this rule are being booked by police.
The DC expressed gratitude to the people for cooperating with the administration in observing lockdown and the other guidelines, he said, it was because of the support of the people that Jamshedpur till date has been able to successfully fight the coronavirus pandemic.
The district administration has asked all commercial establishments as well as the general public to ensure strict adherence to notified norms of lockdown and avoid all forms of gatherings and crowds.
Speaking in reference to it the DC expressed concerns about violations of social distancing guidelines and closure orders. He appealed to the general public to observe the lockdown in letter and spirit warning of strict punishments for violations under the law.
