Jamshedpur DC office sealed after DTO tests corona positive

Jamshedpur, July 18: The East Singhbhum district collectorate and the district transport office which are located on the same premises in �Sakchi were sealed on Saturday after the district transport officer ( DTO ), Rajiv Ranjan was found Covid-19 positive.

Three other staff of the district transport office including the driver and bodyguard of the DTO �were also found Covid-19 positive today. Sources added that Kumar was present when the new deputy commissioner, Suraj Kumar, took charge on Wednesday.

As the news of the fresh cases of corona spread, massive sanitisation drive was started after sealing district collectorate and the DTO offices. Sanitisation work was also undertaken at the senior SP office located on the same campus as a precautionary step.



Sources said the district collectorate would remain closed for three days at least. In order to ensure convenience of the common people a drop box has been placed near the entrance of the district collectorate for them to put their complaints and memorandums.



An official confirmed that the district collectorate and the DTO office have been sealed. ” We do not want to take risk in any way so have sealed the area. Apart from sanitisation work sample collection was underway for all staff for the COVID test” he said. The DTO who was found positive and other staff have been admitted at the Tata Main Hospital.



From Saturday, the district administration launched a public awareness drive by educating residents of various localities over public address system to wear masks and follow social distancing norms.

The administration has joined hands with Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited, in the awareness campaign. Covid-19 positive cases is East Singhbhum district touched 774 on Saturday afternoon, the highest among all districts in Jharkhand.

Moreover, the administration has made it compulsory for people coming into East Singhbhum district from other states to undergo COVID-19 tests and remain in state or paid quarantine till the arrival of reports.

The directive was issued after joint discussions that deliberated on the fast spread of coronavirus infection in the district compounded by migrants coming in with many of them being coronavirus positive cases.

The newly appointed deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar has said that fighting coronavirus is his first priority and he will take every step to wipe it out from the district. The administration has decided to take tough measures to ensure that COVID-19 protocols are followed in the city.
