Jamshedpur, June 3: A meeting was held at the Collectorate Auditorium, where Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav conducted a comprehensive review of the works undertaken by the municipal bodies. The meeting focused on evaluating the progress of development schemes, infrastructure construction, revenue collection, actions against map deviations, door-to-door garbage collection, and cleanliness initiatives.
During the meeting, the special officer of JNAC informed that investigations into map deviations had led to the identification of 79 buildings. Out of these, six illegal constructions have been demolished, while notices have been issued to 46 others. Notices to the remaining 33 buildings will be issued soon. The investigations revealed that instead of constructing ramps in the basements, commercial activities such as medicine shops, cycle shops, restaurants, cafeterias, footwear shops, and godowns were being conducted using stairs. Following the notices, 20 individuals voluntarily vacated the basements. The Deputy Commissioner directed the sub-divisional officer of Dhalbhum to issue notices under Section 133 to both the establishments and the builders, expediting the investigation into map deviations.
Addressing the issue of sewage disposal in the Mango area, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to correspond with JUSCO. Discussions were held on utilizing Jusco’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for the disposal of sewage water through the Desludging Machine operated by Mango Municipal Corporation, subject to the prescribed fee.
During the review of cleanliness and door-to-door garbage collection in urban areas, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of ensuring accurate payment to workers based on biometric attendance records. Municipal bodies were instructed to organize intensive camps from June 7 to 17, focusing on birth and death certificates, holding tax, water connections, septic tank cleaning applications, pension-related matters, and more.
The meeting was attended by SDM-cum-Executive Officer of Jugsalai Municipal Corporation Piyush Sinha, Special Officer JNAC Sanjay Kumar, Executive Officer of Mango Municipal Corporation Suresh Yadav, trainee officers from the municipal bodies, as well as AE, City Manager, CMM, JE, and other officials.
Enhance revenue collection from internal sources
Revenue collection was another significant aspect reviewed during the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner inquired about the revenue sources from the municipal body officials. The executive officer of Mango Municipal Corporation reported an expected increase in revenue collection from holding taxes. Water tax revenues also saw a rise due to a recent camp, where 102 new applications for water connections were received. For the month of June, the Deputy Commissioner set a target of Rs 3 crore for revenue collection from holding taxes for Mango Municipal Corporation. The special officer of JNAC mentioned that the Dhalbhum Sub-Divisional Officer had recently completed the new rate fixation for Town Hall, Son Mandal, and Yatri Niwas, which is expected to boost revenue collection. Additionally, instructions were given to expedite the rate fixation process for shops at the Mango bus stand. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for all municipal bodies to enhance revenue collection from internal sources.
