Jamshedpur Crime: Three year-old drowns in water-filled basement of Mango flat

Jamshedpur, Oct 14: A three year-old child, Shahnawaz, drowned in the water-filled basement of Avishkar Heights situated at Road No 15, Jawahar Nagar, Mango, on Friday.

Sources said the tragedy occurred in the evening when the child was playing in the building. He had come there with his mother Mehrum Khatun to a relative’s place. While the woman got busy, the child went into the basement. After some time, his mother came there looking for him and found him in the water at the basement. The child was immediately taken to Gurunanak Hospital and later to MGM Hospital but was pronounced brought dead.

Sources said the basement was filled with water up to a depth of three feet. Local resident said rainwater often accumulated in the basement of the building in the rainy season. Recently, water was pumped out of the basement with the help of a motor. But the builder reportedly did not get the water drained out the second time, leading to the incident, residents alleged.
