Jamshedpur Crime: Runaway accused arrested from Chhayanagar

Jamshedpur, May 4: Sitaramdera police arrested Dheeraj Kumar, who had fled from police custody, from a house in Chhayanagar, Bhuiyandih, on Wednesday.

The accused, wanted in a case of forcing a minor girl to elope with him, had surrendered at the Sitaramdera police station on 2nd May last. He was kept in the police station office with handcuffs on as his health was reportedly not good. Later in the wee hours, he fled from custody by cutting the rope attached to the handcuff.

After escaping from custody, the accused was reportedly hiding at a friend’s house. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided his friend’s house and arrested him.

Dheeraj had surrendered after police mounted pressure on his family in connection with the elopement case.
