Jamshedpur: Cracks develop on newly-built Dobo-Kanderbera road

Jamshedpur, Aug 24: The newly-built Dobo-Kanderbera road in Seraikela-Kharsawan district that connects Jamshedpur to NH-33 has started developing cracks due to movement of more vehicles than estimated earlier.  As a result of it the road has started caving in, especially the heavy vehicles tend to evade plying through the middle of the road.

“ We need to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles on the road. Moreover, due to heavy rains, the road has developed cracks,” said an official.About 10,000 vehicles, including trucks, trailers and cars move toward Chandil from Jamshedpur via Dimna Chowk on the NH-33 for the destination like Chandil, Chowka and Ranchi beside other places in Bihar.

The Dobo-Kanderbera road was built by the state’s road construction department’s (RCD) Seraikela division simultaneously with a road-bridge, known as Domuhani bridge, was set up over Subernarekha in 2019.

The construction of the 252m bridge linking Sonari locality in the steel city to Dobo at Chandil in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district had started in December 2015 with a target of getting completed in 24 months.

The bridge was constructed by the Kolkata-based company, Royal Infratech, whereas the approach road connecting Dobo to Kanderbera on NH-33 is being constructed by RCD, Seraikela division.

The new bridge in river Subarnarekha linking Sonari with Dobo in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district was set up at a cost of Rs 41 crores. The foundation stone for the ambitious project was laid by chief minister Raghubar Das on March 13, leading the Kolkata-based construction agency, Royal Infratech Pvt Ltd to go ahead with the construction work.

The commissioning of the bridge reduced the load of heavy traffic on city roads and in the process reduced traffic congestion and road mishaps on city arteries and also reduced travel time from Jamshedpur to Ranchi by nearly 40 minutes.

The 252-meter long four-lane bridge (dual-carriageway) with each carriageway of nearly 8.5 meters and pedestrian pathway on each flanks of 1.5 meters has the Sonari side of the bridge reaching out to Swarn Vihar and the Chandil side connecting to a village called Dobo.

The distance between Chandil from Jamshedpur has reduced by about 30 kms as the commuters do not have to go to Chandil — the route for going to Ranchi — via Dimna Chowk.
