Jamshedpur: Congress leader reaches DC office barefoot, highlights electricity, water problems at Ghaghidih Jail

Jamshedpur, May 27: In a powerful display of empathy and concern, Congress leader Aftab Ahmad Siddiqui undertook a barefoot journey to the DC office today to address the pressing issues of electricity and water scarcity at Ghaghidih Central Jail in Jamshedpur. Siddiqui, who had previously spent six months in jail, released a press statement drawing attention to the dire conditions faced by approximately 2000 inmates, including women and young children.

The absence of adequate water supply has severely impacted the daily lives of the prisoners, affecting essential tasks such as bathing and washing. The current reliance on water tankers has proven to be insufficient, exacerbating an already dire situation. In his plea to the Deputy Commissioner, Siddiqui emphasized the critical need for immediate intervention, particularly during power cuts and water shortages, as the circumstances in the jail become unbearable.

Siddiqui, recognizing the potential for rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners into mainstream society, requested the DC to issue an order to Tata Steel UISL previously JUSCO to arrange for a reliable supply of water and electricity within the Central Jail premises. He urged authorities to consider that individuals become incarcerated due to a range of factors, including greed and familial circumstances, emphasizing the importance of providing opportunities for prisoners to reintegrate into society. Furthermore, Siddiqui extended his plea to Banna Gupta, Health Minister of the Jharkhand Government, urging him to take note of the distressing situation at Ghaghidih Central Jail. He implored Gupta to approach the matter with sensitivity and assured that resolving these issues would be a significant milestone in the quest for improved prison conditions.
