Jamshedpur conducts 6500 Covid-19 tests in single day

Jamshedpur, Oct 31: East Singhbhum district administration launched massive Covid-19 testing drive on Saturday to test maximum citizens after the biggest festival of Eastern Part of the India, Durga Puja concluded successfully. Total of 6500 people were tested for Covid-19 on Saturday. To make the drive successful the district health department had formed teams at all the blocks of the district and was given target. Each block was asked to conduct 500 test while the target was higher in urban parts of the district. 2000 people underwent Covid test in the urban area. RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen tests were conducted the urban areas. East Singhbhum district on earlier occasions also launched drive to test maximum people. The growth of coronavirus has slowed down in Jamshedpur and East Singhbhum district and the recovery rate has improved to 90 %.��

The citizens of East Singhbhum district have something to cheer about as positive cases have slowed down after passage of 72 hours from the Durga idol immersion day. The news is a relief for the district residents, administration and the health department.

The next week is being considered crucial. The district health department has increased the COVID testing frequency. A target of conducting tests on 29,500 people in the next 10 days has been fixed. As per the target the daily tests will be conducted, on an average of 2,950 people. The 10 day test schedule was launched on Friday. The Blocks have been allotted separate targets with directives based on figures of the number of coronavirus positive cases detected in each Block. Blocks where more positive cases have been traced, the target for tests have been doubled. Till date, a majority of corona positive cases has been detected in urban regions.

Covid tests were conducted in 11 locations in urban areas of East Singhbhum district on Saturday. P&M Mall in Bistupur, Sakchi, Bistupur fruit market, Bistupur market, Sonari, Birsanagar Sunday market, Baridih, Mango Daigutu Hanuman Mandir, Sankosai, Jugsalai Station Road, Jugsalai Railway Crossing and Dimna Chowk. A team was stationed at every location to collect swab sample.     

Total Covid sample collected in East Singhbhum district is 308983 of which 293267 have been tested while 277429 have turned out to be negative. Total active cases in the district are 1201 while 352 people have died. Corona tally has climbed to 15838 while 14285 have recovered. 

It may be mentioned that in spite of the district administration�s best efforts to contain the crowd of Durga Puja revelers, the numbers of pandal hoppers and wayfarers had increased on Navami and Vijaya Dashami days. 

Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, TMH and former general manager, medical services, Tata Steel, has said that the next 10 days will be crucial to control the spread of coronavirus. He said that people have been careful during Durga Puja and we have to do it in the next 10 days during Diwali and Chhath.  

�We need to be careful in the coming days because of Diwali and Chhath. We should continue to avoid crowding, wear masks and follow social distancing. This will reduce the chances of spread of the virus. If we remain serious about the protocols the virus will further reduce significantly,� he noted.

The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients has improved from 87.32 per cent to 88.82 this week at Tata Main Hospital.
