Jamshedpur College students take fitness pledge on National Sports Day

Jamshedpur, Aug. 29 : Colleges of Kolhan University celebrated the National Sports Day by taking the fitness pledge and hosting series of activities. Several schools and colleges arranged for a live telecast of the launch of Fit India Movement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jamshedpur Public School, Karim City College in Sakchiorganised the screening of the launch followed by a number of sporting activities.

The NSS cell of LBSM College took out a prabhatferi on the occasion.  The Karim City College organised kabaddi and badminton tournaments among students to motivate students towards sports. The ABM College in Golmuri, a constituent college of Kolhan University organised an early morning rally around the college campus where students made the commuters aware about the National Sports Day and the Fitness Challenge. The campaign is aimed at encouraging people to include physical activities.

Jamshedpur East MLA representative Pawan Agarwal flagged off the rally at ABM College. The rally was followed by a volleyball tournament that was inaugurated by Kolhan University controller of examination, P.K. Pani.

Pugilist Aruna Mishra was also invited to share  her experience.�When I started playing boxing, people used to take me very lightly. Being a woman they said that boxing was only for men. I always wanted them to prove wrong and I did with all my grit,� says Mishra. 

When she started playing the game her mentor, Ernest Lakra inspired her to take the game seriously. Aruna’s mentor in her formative years had told her that if she would fail to excel in boxing he will resign from boxing coach for always.

�These words of encouragement from a coach sounded magic to my ears and I resolved to prove him right. I took the game seriously and followed a strict regime to bring laurels to my country,� recollects Mishra. 

The famous pugilist also won gold in Norway in 2005, in New York in 2011 and in Virginia in 2015. Having started her International boxing career in 2002, she has won many gold medals in the Asian Championship and National Boxing Championship.

�The grit and determination over the years helped me know down the shown my opponents. We need more young talent to become embodiment of courage who can challenge all odds of life,� she noted. 

The Jharkhand Special Branch police inspector today is also mother of two girls, wife and boxing coach who runs an academy for budding pugilists at Birsanagar.

The Kolhan University also arranged for a live session of the launch of the Fit India Movement at its office in Chaibasa followed by which vice chancellor of Kolhan University, Shukla Mahanty addressed the faculty members, officials and students.
