JNAC piggyback ride on Tata Steel UISL as best in Jharkhand again
Overall 78th in Swachh Survekshan, 43rd in population less than 10 lakh
Jamshedpur, January 11: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), the civic utility for Jamshedpur town area, continues to be the best in Jharkhand in terms of cleanliness riding piggyback on the efforts of TSUISL (formerly Jusco), the utility arm of Tata Steel.
JNAC bagged the top spot in the cities under population category of 1-10 lakh in Jharkhand in the Swachh Survekshan 2023 whose rankings were released on Thursday by the ministry of Housing and Urban affairs.

Swachh Survekshan, conducted by the union ministry of housing and urban affairs under the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission since 2016, is the world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey.
Jamshedpur bagged the top spot for the fifth time in succession (since 2019), as well as 43rd position in the population category of 1-10 lakh nationwide in the pan-India survey and over-all it has been ranked 78th among 4500+ cities in India.

Incidentally, the city and its outskirts is yet to have a solid waste treatment and recycling plant and the waste are dumped in landfill sites in different parts of the city.
In Swachh Survekshan 2023, JNAC has received a total of 7042.4 marks out of 9500. Besides, Jamshedpur city also has ODF++ and 3 Star certification.
A statement issued by JNAC boasted that in Swachh Survekshan 2023, work has been done primarily in solid waste collection and transportation (door to door collection of segregated waste from all areas of Jamshedpur city).

It also claimed that works has been done in processing and disposal of waste and work is going on making compost from wet waste at three processing plants and disposing of the wet waste at source under home composting.
“All the toilets located in Jamshedpur city are present on Google Map and sign boards and painting like “Toilets are at a distance of 50 meters” have also been done. There is also a system of cleaning toilets regularly and work is also being done to make people aware about sanitation through Toilet 2.0 campaign. A new scheme is being brought to repair all the toilets in public interest,” said a statement of JNAC.
JNAC also claimed to host regularly Indian Swachhta League 2.0”, “Recycle Reduce and Reuse (RRR) Campaign”, “Home Composting”, Swachhta Hi Seva, Swachhta Ke Do Rang, “Kabaad Se Jugaad” to spread awareness for better waste management apart from workshops on topics like plastic ban, and source Segregation.
Also, work was done to spread awareness through “wall painting”, cleanliness ranking among schools, hotels, hospitals, residential apartments, cleanliness related messages and hoardings.
