Anti-addiction awareness campaign launched at Mango

Jamshedpur, Dec 10: An anti-addiction awareness campaign was launched in the city at Gandhi Maidan, Mango, on Saturday. East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner, Vijaya Jadhav, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar and Anjali Soren, sister of Chief Minister Hemant Soren jointly flagged off a foot march on this occasion. Hundreds of people gathered at the venue and raised slogans against addiction.
Addressing the gathering, Anjali Soren said all citizens could play a vital role in stopping addiction in their homes and neighbourhood through awareness on the issue. She said people should inform district administration about people involved in addiction.

The SSP said addiction of narcotic substances such as brown sugar was harmful for its victims and the entire society. He said many crimes were committed after addiction. He said awareness on addiction was the need of the hour and it could prove instrumental in fighting this evil. He said the citizens should inform police about anyone dealing in or taking drugs.
The DC said many addicts were found to be young people. She said the family members of such persons should approach the local police station or NGOs to take necessary steps for their de-addiction and rehabilitation. She said public awareness could ensure victory in the fight against addiction.
The participants of the campaign took a mass pledge against addiction before the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
