Jamshedpur, Nov 23: A massive signature campaign was launched by the Jamshedpur Citizen Forum on Sunday at Dimna Chowk against the construction of six proposed ramps under the NH-33 elevated corridor project. Local residents and business owners participated in large numbers, alleging that the current ramp design poses a severe threat to homes and shops located along the 3 km stretch. Campaign lead Vikas Singh said each ramp is nearly half a kilometre long and their placement will drastically narrow the road in front of dozens of establishments. “This plan could cause losses worth crores and put hundreds of livelihoods at risk,” he said. Singh added that the original double-decker elevated corridor plan was changed to a single layer, but the base structure remained the same, leading to unnecessary ramp construction. Ramps near Sahay Clinic, Repeat Colony and Baliguma are reportedly most problematic. The forum submitted a memorandum to East Singhbhum DC Karan Satyarthi, urging immediate intervention. “Development cannot come at the cost of displacing citizens,” the forum said.
