Jamshedpur, Aug 22: A youth, identified as Nitish Thakur, was critically injured after falling into a deep drain near Telco Colony Plaza Chowk on Monday. He reportedly fell into the drain after being chased by traffic cops during a vehicle checking drive.

Sources said the youth was on his way towards Plaza Chowk in Kharangajhar when he saw traffic cops checking vehicles. As he tried to change his way, the traffic cops reportedly ran after him and started chasing him. While speeding away, Nitish fell into the drain accidentally and got critically injured. A crowd of local residents and commuters gathered at the scene and came forward to rescue the youth. Traffic cops meanwhile left the scene in view of the tense situation building up there. Local residents took Nitish to Tata Motors Hospital where his condition was reportedly serious.

BJYM district president Amit Singh criticized the traffic cops for the incident and also blamed them for Nitish’s critical condition. He said the traffic cops should conduct the vehicle checking near Labour Bureau, Ring Road instead of doing it near Telco Stadium which was on an incline.
