Jamshedpur, April 1: Tata Steel MD and CEO TV Narendran said the last financial year (2021-2022) proved very profitable for the company. He said the company successfully produced 19 million tonne steel, 3.45 million tonne of which was produced at the Kalinganagar plant. He further said that the company’s Tata Pravesh doors business had reached one lakh tonne.

The Tata Steel MD was speaking during a customary cake cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of the new financial year 2022-2023 in the lawn of Jamshedpur Works on Friday. He was accompanied by Tata Workers Union Deputy President Shailesh Singh, Tata Steel Vice President Uttam Singh and other dignitaries.

Narendran said the company had achieved a record steel production of 10.2 million tonne. He said the company had recruited 41 transgenders. New Bar Mill was injury free for eight years and the CRM Bara had also been injury free for the last six years, he said.

The MD said Tata Steel had been successful in the takeover of Nilanchal Ispat, Karamat Mineral Limited and other companies in the last fiscal. Tata Steel worked excellently during the Corona pandemic as it supplied 80,000 tonne of oxygen all over the country, he said.

Stressing on excellence, the MD said, “Tata Steel’s Netherland plant has performed well. Coal rates have doubled which led the company to increase its rates. We have to focus on digital and innovation. It is unfortunate that three deaths occurred in the company in the last financial year. We have to work on bringing down this figure to zero. We also need better risk management to meet tough days and future challenges and take decisions based on the future of all classes of people in the company.”

Narendran said the company officials will have to perform better along with the subordinate workers and keep the focus at 360 degree to ensure monitoring of one and all so that even a junior employee can appraise an official. There is need to set up such a system, he said.
