Jamshedpur, Aug 30: Sub-Inspector Vikas Kumar of Sidhgora police station has again come under controversy after CCTV footage captured his indecent behavior inside a shop in Bagunhatu. The footage showed Kumar verbally abusing the shopkeeper in front of his elderly parents, using obscene language directed at women and mothers. When confronted, Kumar openly admitted he would continue abusing.
The victim shopkeeper, accompanied by Hindu Jagran Manch leader Kaushik Swain, handed the video footage to former BJP district spokesperson Ankit Anand, seeking intervention. Anand raised the issue on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), tagging Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Jharkhand Police Headquarters. He questioned whether the rule of law applied only to citizens or also to the police, asking pointedly: “Is this Maiyaan Samman?”
The shopkeeper has submitted a formal written complaint to Jamshedpur SSP Piyush Pandey.
This is not the first controversy surrounding SI Vikas Kumar. In January 2025, he was accused of manipulating an FIR in an assault case to falsely implicate innocents. Following a complaint by BJP leader Ankit Anand, the State Police Complaints Authority had ordered an inquiry, and senior officers later removed the innocent names. The matter was reportedly suppressed due to political pressure.
With the latest video evidence surfacing, serious questions were again being raised about Kumar’s conduct and accountability within Jamshedpur Police.
