Jamshedpur Cable Basti residents to launch Jal Satyagraha for water supply

Jamshedpur, December 24: Residents of Cable Basti in Golmuri have threatened to launch Jal Satyagraha against Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure (TSUIS) Limited if the Tata Steel subsidiary does not supply drinking water to DS Flat area of Cable Basti in a week.

As part of the Jal Satyagraha the residents themselves will make a water connection by laying a pipe and deposit a reasonable fee with TSUIS (formerly Jusco).

Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai has given this information to TSUIS management today and has asked them to add water connection within a week. Basti residents had come to the MLA’s office in large numbers this morning. After this, Rai visited Cable Basti at 4 pm today and after meeting with the residents of the township, decided to do Jal Satyagraha.

Rai said that since last one year, Jusco has been assuring the residents that water supply will start in three days, in four days. But it had not happened so far. Meanwhile, Jusco laid the pipe, distributed the connection form to many people, but neither released water in the pipeline nor connected the houses to the houses.

Now Jusco officials are saying that a legal hurdle has come, the case of the Incab company is going on in NCLT. From there the process of getting NOC is going on. Rai has said that whatever process is going on, Jusco should complete it in a week. The residents will not wait any longer. I will also be with them in this water satyagraha.

“Surprisingly, Jusco did not have to take NOC for constructing a wide road in Cable Town but it needs it for  laying the drinking water supply pipeline,” said Rai.

“They should release water in Pipeline, make connections in the homes of the beneficiaries and charge y reasonable charges. The residents will pay the fee and take water. There should be no further delay in this,” said Rai.
