Jamshedpur: Seven persons of a family hailing from the city were rescued from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. They are expected to arrive at Tatanagar railway station tomorrow.
Sources said the family members of a Garabasa-based girl had gone to Rishikesh for her wedding slated to be held on 10th March last. On reaching Rishikesh, the would-be groom, Shashikant Sharma, and his family members demanded dowry from the bride�s family. Sharma and his friends also misbehaved with her and threatened her of dire consequences. Sharma also lied about being employed. Later, the girl refused to marry him. Irked over this, the girl�s family was taken hostage on 9th March after being beaten up by the accused persons.
On 11th March, the bride informed Jamshedpur MP, SSP Jamshedpur Anoop Birtharay and other local contacts and sought help to get her family members freed. The SSP soon contacted Rishikesh police and sought assistance to rescue to hostages. After being freed, the hostages were sent for Jamshedpur in Kumbh Express, sources said.
