Jamshedpur, July 12: A tragic incident unfolded as four youths, including a
22-year-old from Jamshedpur, drowned in the Kuakhai River in
Bhubaneswar. The victim from Jamshedpur has been identified as Aryan
Mishra, the son of Pankaj Mishra, a resident of JKS Colony at
Jawaharnagar in Mango.
Aryan, who was the only child of Pankaj Mishra, was pursuing an MBA at
a college in Bhubaneswar. On Tuesday afternoon, he and a group of nine
students decided to visit the Kuakhai River in the Balianta thana area
for a bath. However, tragedy struck during their outing.
According to the police, nine friends from Astha School of Management had gone to Dhabalahara to have a feast on Tuesday. After the feast, four of them returned to their college while five others went to Kuakhai to take a bath.

After plunging into the swollen river, four of the students, including
Aryan, tragically drowned. By evening, the police managed to recover
two bodies, but the other two students remained unaccounted for.
Subsequently, one of the retrieved bodies was identified by fellow
students as that of Aryan Mishra.
Upon receiving the devastating news, the police promptly informed the
victim’s parents, who immediately rushed to Bhubaneswar along with
family members and relatives. The body is expected to be transported
to Mango later this evening.

Aryan had previously completed his BBA course at a college in Kolkata
before joining an MBA program in Bhubaneswar.
The tragic demise of Aryan has cast a pall of gloom over the Mango
locality, where he was well-known and respected.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with
swimming in turbulent waters, particularly during the monsoon season.
Authorities urge caution and emphasize the importance of adhering to
safety measures when venturing near rivers and water bodies,
especially during times of increased water flow.
As the bereaved families mourn the loss of their loved ones, the
community stands in solidarity with them, offering support and
condolences during this difficult time.
Sharmila Subramanian, principal of Astha School of Management, said, “At present internship of the students is going on and every student is going to a company for the internship. They have been permitted to visit their company till 7 to 7.30 p.m.”
A committee has been constituted to conduct an investigation and submit its report. The concerned companies have been asked to know whether any leave was granted to the students or not, she said.
