Raghubar recalls his arrest and days in jail during 1975

Many democracy fighters, including the party’s national vice president cum former chief minister Raghuvar Das, who were jailed during the emergency, shared the experiences of the Emergency. Raghuvar Das honored the sentinels of democracy Ram Praveen Pandey, Harendra Singh, Ashwini Kumar Awasthi and Munna Rajak, who were tortured in jail during the emergency, by presenting them with angavastras.

Addressing the workers on this occasion, Raghubar Das said that the Emergency imposed on the midnight of June 25, 1975 is the most tarnished chapter of Indian democracy. On this day, a state of emergency was imposed on the country due to corruption, decline in education and to preserve its power. In this, the opposition leaders of the country were jailed. The press was censored.
“According to the ideals of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the spirit of this democracy has been embodied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through his policies and plans during his eight years of rule. Today the roots of democracy are so strong that I feel that Congress or any party or any leader will not dare to create emergency like situation again by going against democratic values,” said Das.
Raghuvar Das also shared his experience of going to jail during emergency. He told that during those days of student politics, there was information about the imposition of emergency in the grounds of Ashish Kishor Sangh of Bhalubasa. He was finally arrested amidst heavy rain on July 6, at 2 pm. In the jail, along with former MLA Dinanath Pandey, Ashwini Kumar Awasthi and others, the strategy of the movement was prepared.

Das said that at that time the people of the press said that the country has got its second freedom. He said that every worker of BJP is always alert to protect the Constitution.
At the same time, MP Bidyut Varan Mahato said that as much as the countrymen were happy after independence, they were very sad after the dictatorial emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. He described the contribution of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers in emergency as unforgettable.
