Jamshedpur, March 16: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party members met Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) M Tamil Vanan to demand withdrawal of cases registered against party leaders Bharat Singh and Manjeet Singh.
Leading the delegation, Jamshedpur Mahanagar BJP president Gunjan Yadav said the police had added Section 353 of IPC against Abhay Singh after 5 months of the lodging of FIR at Sakchi police station. The FIR was lodged in connection with the distribution of bhog (Khichdi) during Durga Puja at Kasidih Durga Puja pandal.
The BJP leader further said that the Golmuri police had lodged an FIR against district BJP secretary Manjeet Singh for protesting against religious conversion in Nanak Nagar, Golmuri, by certain missionaries. He said local residents had also opposed the conversion activities of missionaries in the area. He alleged that police had booked Manjeet Singh under various sections instead of taking action against those involved in conversion.
The BJP leaders threatened to go on a massive agitation in case the cases against BJP leaders are not withdrawn immediately. They said the cases were lodged under political pressure.
