Chennai to host 23rd Asian Master Athletic C’ship in Nov
Jamshedpur, July 19: India is set to host the prestigious 23rd Asian Master Athletic Championship 2025, which will be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, this November. The event is being organized under the joint aegis of the Asian Master Athletic Association and the Master Athletic Federation of India (MAFI).
Athletes from nearly 25 Asian countries are expected to participate in the four-day international sporting event. To ensure its success, a crucial two-day planning meeting was held on June 17 and 18, 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, attended by top officials of MAFI and the Asian Master Athletic Association.
During the meeting, various committees were formed to manage different aspects of the championship. Two key figures from Jharkhand have been assigned important roles. Vijay Singh, President of the Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand and a noted businessman and social worker, along with SK Tomar, the Association’s General Secretary and an international medal-winning athlete from Jamshedpur, have been entrusted with overseeing medical and emergency services during the event.
Their appointments were confirmed by Siva Pragasam Sivasanbo of Malaysia, who serves as the General Secretary of both MAFI and the Asian Master Athletic Association. The decision underscores Jharkhand’s growing presence in the national and international athletics arena and highlights the state’s contribution to ensuring the success of global sports events.
