Jamshedpur: Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship inaugurated, action to begin today


Championship a great exposure for our children to compete with other Asian counterparts: Chanakya Chaudhary

Jamshedpur, Dec 8: The first-ever Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship in India was inaugurated today at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Asia in association with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) and Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) is organizing the three-day extravaganza wherein 100 young athletes from 10 Asian countries are participating.

They were welcomed during the opening ceremony.

Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel said, “Congratulations to everyone involved in this event for their brilliant efforts in bringing this international event to India for the first time. Tata Steel Adventure Foundation has been promoting sport climbing and nurturing young talent in Jamshedpur. It is a great opportunity for our kids to get this kind of exposure, and to participate with emerging athletes from across Asia. I would like to thank International Federation of Sport Climbing, Asia, and Indian Mountaineering Foundation, for their ongoing support and encouragement.”

The participants are divided into two groups of Youth D in the age group of 10-11 years and Youth C in the age group of 12-13 years. The 3 days event starting December 9 will witness some of the best athletes in the field of sport climbing competing in three categories of Lead, Speed, Bouldering and Combined category.

Of the 48 athletes in the Indian team 15 are from Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).

The participants include Bhoj Birua, Kundan Kumar, Savitri Samad, Rohit Mudi, Suku Singh,Sudarshan Murmu, Sangita Tiu, Puja Sinku, Sakshi Rajak,Sanjay Birua, Amar Khandelwal, Sunil Mahato, Nandani Singh, Muskan Bandra and Munni Pareya.    

This event will have an exciting blend of thrilling climbing competitions, nail-biting speed races and gripping battles of strength which are sure to leave its audience in an exhilarating trance.  The event will also have lots of fun and engaging activities for children and youth. Many schools from Jamshedpur are participating in the various activities happening during the meet. It will be streamed live on Youtube and the Facebook page of TSAF.

The opening ceremony was also graced by Ujjal Chakraborti, Managing Director JCAPCPL, Rasip Inn, President IFSC Asia, Keerthi Pais, Chairman, National Sport Climbing, Padma Shri Premlata Agarwal, Manager TSAF, K Saraswati, Chairman IMF, West zone.

The opening ceremony also witnessed Chhau dance performance.
