Jamshedpur ASI arrested for shooting and injuring a 22-year-old youth

Jamshedpur: The assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police who had shot and injured a 22-year-old youth at Garabasa under Golmuri police station area has been arrested and sent to Ghaghidih Central Jail.

ASI, Shiaram Yadav had a quarrel with the gun-shot victim, Rishi Kant Singh, while probing into a bike theft case and had fired at the youth near his house in Garabasa on Sunday night.

The erring ASI (52) was reportedly drunk while visiting Garabasa in sequel to a bike theft case, but City SP, Subhash Chandra Jat denied the allegation to be true.

” We are investigating the incident. We have arrested the ASI Shiram Yadav on the statement of the gun-shot victim.  He had had fired at the youth which was use of force,” said Jat.

The City SP said the ASI was not drunk as had been alleged. He said they had subjected to a alcohol test which tested negative.  He pointed out that the investigation into the case is on.

Rishi is son of Mantu Singh, general secretary of Jharkhand Vikash Morcha’s (JVM) traders’ cell and a first-year student of NTTF at Golmuri.  He has sustained left leg and is undergoing treatment at the Tata Main Hospital. The victim was first taken to the MGM Medical College Hospital by his family members and was later shifted to Tata Main Hospital for better treatment.
