Jamshedpur, March 29: Anti-corruption bureau’s (ACB) Jamshedpur division arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police while accepting bribe near Telco police station premises on Thursday.
Identified as Mohammed Aurangzeb (49), the ASI was posted at the Telco police station. He was nabbed while he was accepting Rs 9,000 from the complainant Sunil Kumar Prasad.
Deputy superintendent of police (ACB) Amar Pandey said that Prasad who is a resident of Cross Road No 21 in Telco Colony helped them nabbed the culprit.
He and his friend Ravi Shankar Singh were implicated in an assault case. Both were arrested along with other accused in the other side, but the ASI, Aurangzeb had ensured bail for both Ravi Shankar and Prasad from the police station itself after a deal was finalized between them that they will have to pay Rs 9,000 as bribe.
“The victim Prasad had on Wednesday afternoon contacted the ACB and after a preliminary investigation we found the complaint to be true. Then we asked the complainant to pay the bribe money to the accused at his residence adjoining the Telco police station as had been decided by him. The moment the money was paid, a six-member team of ACB which was waiting outside entered Aurangzeb’s house and caught him,” said Pandey.
Elaborating on the issue, the DSP (ACB) said that on March 6, the complainant’s friend Rabi Shankar was assaulted by Rajesh Jha, Raju Mishra, Chhotu Prasad and Vinod Singh had assaulted with sticks and iron rod.
“Despite assaulting Ravi Shankar, one of the accused Raju Mishra had lodged a counter case against Ravi Shankar and Sunil Kumar Prasad. The ASI Aurangzeb who was the investigating officer of the case had given both Ravi Shankar and Prasad bail from the police station itself after he got a deal finalised by Prasad that he would pay Rs 9,000 as bribe for the bail,” said the DSP adding that investigation is on.
According to sources in the ACB, the currency notes of Rs 500 denomination which were handed over to the ASI had been smeared with a chemical.
