Jamshedpur Police bust gang of smart phone snatchers, three arrested

Jamshedpur : Police today busted a gang of smart phone snatchers by arresting three youths.The police have recovered two stolen smart phones and a scooter which they were using in committing the crime.

Those arrested were identified as Pramod Kumar Mahto (24),Gaurav Vishwakarma (22), and Vishal Sharma (23), all residents of Sonari.

Deputy superintendent of police (headquarters – II) Kailash Karmali said that they had got two complaints of smart phone snatchings on two consecutive days from March 15. Acting on a tip off they managed to nabbed the gang members.

In the first incident of snatching, four two-wheelers-borne criminals had snatched a smart phone from a 35-year-old woman, Sarabjit Kaur, from near Balichela High School at Sonari on March 15 night. Kaur was returning home on foot from Gurudwara in Sonari as she fell victim to the snatchers.

The second incident of snatching took place at Kagalnagar on March 16 night, when a 20-year-old youth Sumeet Kumar was returning home at Kagalnagar on foot while talking over his smart phone.

Soon after these incidents, a special team led by Sonari police station OC, Anuj Kumar came into action.

“Acting on inputs we received we first picked up Gaurab, who confessed his involvement in both the incidents of snatching. Later on interrogating the accused we nabbed two more youths, Pramod and Vishal from their houses in Adarshnagar itself. During the investigation we recovered not only the stolen smartphones, but also the scooter they had used in committing the crime,” said the DSP.
