Potka, Sept 19: One hundred students of Arka Jain University were given an insight into rural governance in a programme organized by YUVA at Tangerine Upgraded Middle School on Monday. Panchayat representatives, expert teachers well versed in Three-Tier Panchayati system and social activists briefed the Arka Jain University students on propriety and activities of the Gram Sabha, participation in the Gram Sabha and planning at the local level among others in a question-answer session.
The students were then taken around the village to gather firsthand information on living conditions of the people. They also saw the condition and lifestyles of the endangered Sabar tribals during the rural tour and on observing facilities being provided to them tried to reason out ways to make them join the mainstream of socio economic activities. The students assessed the quantum of rights being given to women in rural governance. Accompanying the 100 Arka Jain University students were professors Ankita Singh, Rama Singh, Ratan Kumar, Ranjan Singh, three-tier panchayat system instructor Ujjwal Kumar Mandal, village head Mangal Pan, Panchayat Samiti member Rameshwar Patar, retired teacher Jai Hari Singh Munda, Chairman of Management Committee, Mangala Majhi, Upgraded Middle School Head Master Arvind Tiwari, YUVA representatives and local villagers.
