Jamshedpur advocates protest colleague’s arrest in communal violence case

Jamshedpur, April 12: Following a violent clash between two communities in Kadma area of Jamshedpur, the police today arrested advocate Chandan Choubey and sent him to jail on charges of deteriorating harmony.

Expressing anger over the arrest, the advocates raised slogans against the district administration and stalled the work. The advocates have called a pen down strike tomorrow.  The advocate was handcuffed by the police without investigation.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Ajit Kumar Ambasht, chairman of District Bar Association Ad hoc Committee, met Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav. During this, by handing over a memorandum they demanded the suspension of the police officer.

Advocate Akshay Kumar Jha said that the advocate was sent to jail like a criminal. Whereas there is no fault of the said advocate.

He had gone to meet the Superintendent of Police with his client in a case. But he was kept in custody. He said that the ultimatum has been given till 12 April. If action is not taken against the guilty police officer, on April 13, all the advocates will boycott the work of the court.
