Jamshedpur: The Mango and Jamshedpur Circle Officers have taken decisive action against encroachments on river bank lands within Jamshedpur’s urban zones. As part of this effort, notices have been served to 26 individuals under JPLE cases, comprising 16 cases in Mango and 10 in the Jamshedpur Circle area. Officials, including Mango Circle Officer Brajesh Shrivastava and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) CO Manoj Kumar, have confirmed the issuance of notices under section-3 of JPLE, requiring respondents to provide explanations.

In Mango, encroachments on lands designated as account number 1249 in ward number eight and account number 727 in ward number 10 have been addressed, with minimal construction noted mostly as boundary walls near the river bank. Meanwhile, notices have been dispatched to individuals in Bhuinyadih, with plans to extend enforcement to Kadma and Sonari areas soon.

This administrative action comes ahead of a hearing at the Kolkata Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), scheduled for Monday, highlighting the urgency in addressing 206 illegal constructions identified. Among these, 62 are situated within 10 meters of the river bank and 134 within 10-15 meters, all in contravention of NGT guidelines. Concerns were raised during a recent meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, where officials were tasked with providing a detailed report on constructions on raiyati and government lands, further emphasizing the need for compliance with environmental regulations.
