Jamshedpur, July 25: A gram sabha has been called by the district administration on Thursday, 27th July, regarding the construction of the proposed waste disposal plant at Samutola in Khairbani Mauza under Govindpur police station.
For this, the village head has been informed by sending a letter.
On the other hand, the villagers have become vocal in protesting against the holding of gram sabha by the district administration. By holding a meeting on July 23, the Gram Sabha was rejected outright. Also, on Tuesday they handed over the letter to the deputy commissioner and informed about the decision of the Gram Sabha. In the letter handed over by the signatures of village pradan Hatu Munda and Diku Melgandi, it has been clearly mentioned that no garbage disposal plant will be allowed to be set up in Khairbani at any cost. With the establishment of the plant, any kind of administrative interference on the traditional, religious, social and cultural system will not be tolerated.
The matter of setting up a waste disposal plant at Samutola in Khairbani Mauza is pending since 2013.
At that time also the gram sabha was organized by the district administration which was strongly opposed by the villagers.
The executive agency stopped work due to protest and controversy. Since then the matter is lying in limbo.
The entire administrative staff will reach the gram sabha on July 27.
Under the leadership of the village head of Khairbani Samutola, the villagers handed over a letter to the local (Jugsalai) MLA Mangal Kalindi. In which a demand was made to cancel the waste treatment plant. The villagers told the MLA that due to the establishment of the said plant, the traditional customs, social, religious and cultural system will be affected under the tribal self-governance system. The MLA assured the village head to take appropriate initiative and steps in this regard.
