Jamshedpur: In a major step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the Public Distribution System (PDS), Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal directed nodal officers across all blocks of East Singhbhum to conduct surprise inspections at five PDS shops each. The inspections aimed to verify the timely and fair distribution of food grains to beneficiaries and prevent any irregularities.
During the inspections, officers scrutinized multiple aspects, including stock availability, Aadhaar seeding, lifting and distribution of food grains, and the provision of other essential supplies. This initiative was undertaken to address any loopholes in the system, ensuring that food grains reach eligible beneficiaries without any discrepancies.
Several senior officials were assigned to oversee inspections in different areas of the district: Project Director ITDA Dipankar Chaudhary inspected PDS shops in Ghatshila. SDM Dhalbhum Shatabdi Majumdar inspected shops in Bodam. Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhagirath Prasad monitored the situation in Patamda. SOR Rahul Anand conducted inspections in Dhalbhumgarh. LRD Ghatshila Neet Nikhil Surin checked shops in Baharagora. LRD Dhalbhum Gautam Kumar reviewed PDS operations in Potka. District Panchayat Raj Officer Rinku Kunari oversaw JNAC. District Supply Officer Salman Zafar Khijri inspected Dumria. DTO Dhananjay examined the Jugsalai Municipal Council area. Director NEP Santosh Garg conducted inspections in Gudabanda. Stock verification: Confirming that food grains in storage matched the official records. Aadhaar seeding compliance: Ensuring proper linkage of ration cards to prevent fraudulent claims. Fair allocation to beneficiaries: Checking that no unauthorized deductions were made in food allotments. Proper documentation: Ensuring that records maintained at the PDS shops were up to date and transparent.
The inspections revealed minor discrepancies in some locations, which were immediately reported to higher authorities. The nodal officers were directed to submit detailed inspection reports to the Deputy Commissioner’s office by 6 PM. Based on these reports, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal will chair a high-level meeting to review deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
Strict measures, including penalties and potential legal action, will be imposed on PDS operators found guilty of negligence or malpractice. This initiative is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and inefficiency within the PDS framework.
“ The surprise inspections highlight the district administration’s commitment to ensuring food security for all eligible citizens. By increasing vigilance and strengthening monitoring mechanisms, authorities aim to uphold the integrity of welfare schemes and prevent any misuse of government resources. Regular inspections and audits will continue in the coming months to maintain transparency in the distribution process and ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach the intended recipients without delay,” said an official.
