Jamshedpur: ACB nabs clerk taking Rs 1.40 lakh bribe 

Jamshedpur, August 2: Saroj Kumar Singh, accounts clerk, work division, rural works division, Chakradharpur, West Singhbhum district, was caught red-handed while taking bribe.

He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team. It is said that Avinash Kumar Sirka, a resident of Khediyatangar under Manjhari police station in West Singhbhum district, had complained to Jamshedpur ACB that he contracts in the name of AS Construction of Chaibasa.

 A total of 28 work plans have been mentioned block-wise in the tender invitation notice available on the website on January 31. Out of this, the work plan for the construction of 0.500 km PCC road from Devendra Manjhi Chowk to Madan Gope’s house in Gope Tola of Dimbuli Panchayat under Manoharpur block is final, for which the estimated amount has been fixed at Rs 46,53,600.

The said tender was given to Avinash Kumar Sirka’s company only. But when it came his turn to get the tender, the executive engineer of Chakradharpur rural development special division Chandan Kumar told him to go and meet the employee Saroj Kumar.

According to the instructions of executive engineer Chandan Kumar, the contractor met Saroj Kumar. Saroj Kumar told that according to 3 percent of the estimated amount ( Rs 1 lakh 40 thousand) will be spent, since all the money has to be given to the cashier of the office, only then the work order for the work plan will be received. The work was not given to them even after many requests while the contractors did not want to pay the bribe.

After this he complained about it to Jamshedpur ACB. ACB verified and found that Executive Engineer Chandan Kumar and office staff Saroj Kumar were demanding bribe. A case has been filed against the executive engineer.
