Jailer and two suspended in Prabhat Khabar Editor Threat Case

Ranchi: In a rapid response to the threat issued to Prabhat Khabar Editor-in-Chief Ashutosh Chaturvedi and Senior Editor Vijay Pathak from Birsa Munda Central Jail, Ranchi, significant actions have been taken. On Friday, January 5, Jailer Pramod Kumar, along with computer operator and senior warden (high chamberlain) Awadhesh Kumar Singh, were suspended in connection to the incident. It is alleged that these individuals played a role in divulging the phone numbers of the editor-in-chief and the senior local editor.

The incident unfolded on December 29 when both the editor-in-chief and the senior local editor received threatening phone calls from Yogendra Tiwari, an inmate at Birsa Munda Jail in Hotwar. The senior editor promptly filed a written complaint with the local police, prompting an investigation into the matter. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the case was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CID acted swiftly, concluding its investigation within a week, leading to decisive action against those involved. In response to their findings, Inspector General (IG) Jail took immediate action, suspending three individuals, including Jailer Pramod Kumar. The suspension also extends to the computer operator and senior warden allegedly implicated in the case. Authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of media personnel and maintaining the integrity of the justice system.
