Jadugora villagers claim having seen four lions, seek protection

Jamshedpur: In an unbelievable development, villagers of Jadugora have claimed to have seen four lions in the nearby forest. They said they had seen pug marks of the ferocious beasts in Moshogora village of Shohda panchayat on Saturday last.

Forest officials, surprised by the claims of villagers, said they will be investigating into the claims to find out if lions or any other wild animal was out on prey in the forest area situated close to densely inhabited rural area.

One of the villagers, Ravi Patro said he had seen four lions chasing away a cow and roaring. �I was so terrified that I went into my house and locked the door. Next morning I told everyone in the village about the incident,� he said.

Another villager Sharat Singh said many ox were reported missing in several villages in the last few days. It may be possible that the lions could have killed them, he said.

Forest ranger of the area Sameer Adhikari said he was not aware of the incident. He said only a probe would reveal the truth.

Local villagers are panicky after the report of lions being present in the forest. They have sought protection from the forest officials.
