Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s 204th birth anniversary celebrated

Jamshedpur, Sept 26: The Jamshedpur branch of Jharkhand Bangali Samiti observed the 204th birth anniversary of educationist and social activist, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar at a programme organized in the Bhalubasa Joda Mandir auditorium. Members garlanded the statue of Vidyasagar and offered floral tributes.

Social worker Shekhar Dey, while speaking on the occasion, said, “A dedicated educationist, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar ensured that even the poorest was not deprived of education. He also took up cudgels against the then prevailing social evil of child marriage. Vidyasagar’s contribution towards education and social uplift will remain written in golden letters.”

Bhavesh Babu, Saroj Sen, Shyamal Sil, Purnima Devi, Rama Devi and many others were present on the occasion. Recitations of poems were performed by Arati Sen and Roma Mukherjee.
