Jamshedpur, March 24: Following a gas cylinder explosion at a residence in Birsanagar Zone No. 4 on Saturday afternoon, authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. The Birsanagar police station has registered a case regarding the matter, with the investigation entrusted to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The explosion occurred at Sandeep Kumar’s residence near the washing center, resulting in significant damage. According to Sandeep, the gas cylinder caught fire suddenly, leading to an explosion before he could comprehend the situation. The cylinder, delivered to the house earlier that day at 11 am, ignited shortly after installation due to a leakage issue.

Efforts to contain the fire were futile as it continued to escalate gradually. The cylinder was locked in a room, and the fire department was promptly notified. However, the situation intensified, culminating in a loud explosion. Subsequently, all household appliances and belongings, including an AC unit and TV, were engulfed in flames. Additionally, Rs 20,000 in cash was lost in the blaze, and the house sustained structural damage, with cracks visible on the walls.

The estimated loss from the incident amounts to lakhs of rupees. Authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion to ascertain the cause and prevent similar incidents in the future.
