International conference on Materials and Manufacturing for Industry 4.0 at BIT Mesra

Ranchi: The Department of Production and Industrial Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, successfully hosted the International Conference on Materials, Manufacturing and Management for Industry 4.0 (IC3MI-25) today at the R&D Building. Sponsored by ANRF and METATEC, the conference brought together leading academicians, researchers and industry experts from India and abroad to discuss next-generation manufacturing and materials technologies.

The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony, followed by the keynote address by Jayant Damodar Patil, President of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, who emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between industry and academia to prepare India for Industry 4.0. The conference was also attended by Professor Indranil Manna (Vice-Chancellor), Professor L.N. Patnaik (Co-ordinator) and Dr Thakur Abhinav A. and Dr Gayatri Paul (Organising Secretaries).

Technical sessions throughout the day featured distinguished lectures from Professor Partha Saha (IIT Kharagpur), Professor John Polzer (University of Auckland) and Dr Arivazhagan A. (Coventry University, UK). Parallel paper sessions showcased research from ISRO, IITs, NITs, BITS Mesra and international institutions, focusing on materials engineering, advanced manufacturing and digital management strategies.

Afternoon sessions included expert talks by Professor Kaushik Chattopadhyay (IIT BHU) and management specialists from IIM Kolkata and IIM Mumbai, highlighting smart materials, automated systems and data-driven decision-making. IC3MI-25 successfully fostered knowledge exchange and collaboration between academia and industry, underlining the transformative potential of advanced materials, smart manufacturing and digital management technologies for Industry 4.0.
