Jamshedpur: District students stood on top as the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) declared the Intermediate results of science and commerce streams on Saturday.
The results for the Arts stream will be declared later. Girls have outwitted boys in the results. The pass percentage in the science stream was 63.5 while in commerce it was 75.83 all over the state.
In Kolhan, Mukesh Kumbhkar of Karim City College topped the Science stream with 412 marks while Neetu Kumari Sharma of Jamshedpur Women�s College topped in commerce with 386 marks. Guddi Acharya of Jamshedpur Women�s College and Saurabh Kumar of Karim City College were respectively the second and third toppers in Science. In commerce Deepika Kumari of Jamshedpur Women�s College and Sonika Rao of RP Sarangi Inter College, Chakradharpur bagged the second and third position.
These Science and commerce toppers have earned top three positions in entire Kolhan region with Jamshedpur ruling the roost.
“It is a great feeling as I have been able to make my parents proud. I want to pursue engineering and help my parents who have earned every bit for me. We have faced many difficulties but my efforts have been paid well with the result,” said a beaming Mukesh.
Officials of Jamshedpur Women�s College appeared satisfied with the overall performance of students though they expected better result. �I am satisfied with the overall performance of our girls hopefully, we will improve our performance next year,� said Dr. Sumita Mukherjee, principal, JWC.
Kolhan commerce topper Neetu Kumari Sharma said, �I want to become a Chartered Accountant and work for a multinational Company.
Somnath Sinha of ABM College emerged as his college’s commerce topper with 369 marks. Son of a civil worker mom and daily wage earner father, Somnath has proved his mettle.
I want to pursue B. Com and prepare for the railway examination so that I can have a secure job and can look after my parents who have worked really hard for me,� said Somnath talking to the The Avenue Mail over phone from his residence.
Ashit Mahato of ABM College scored 345 in commerce and was the second topper of his college, while Chandan Kumar of the same college secured 344 in commerce and was the third topper.
Priyanka Rai of Tinplate Mahila College who scored 320 marks in Science was the college topper; Akansha Kumari of the same college with 310 marks was second while Deepika Sharma also of the same college was third with 300 marks.
�I am very happy with the result and would like to pursue nursing said, Priyanka Rai Science topper of Tinplate Mahila College, Resident of Baridih Priyanka said she would like to dedicate this achievement to her parents and teachers. Priyanka�s father is bar room incharge at Tube Maker�s Club while her mother is a house wife.
Utkal Inter College students improved their results with Payal Rautri scoring 300 marks and was the college topper, Shahadhri Mohanty was second with 294 marks while Rekha Sehvan was third with 292 marks.

The commerce topper of Abdul Bari Memorial College, Somnath Sinha, has an inspiring success story to tell as he prepares for Railway Recruitment examinations post Intermediate results.
His father, Tapan Sinha, sells pappad on city streets for a living while his mother Mamata Sinha is a daily wage earner. The couple toiled day and night to sustain the studies of their brilliant son who too, burnt the midnight oil to keep his parents� hopes high.
