Jamshedpur: City-based NGO Yugantar Bharati organized a discussion on the topic �Development of a pollution-free Swarnarekha region’ at Sri Krishna Sinha Public School, Bistupur, on Sunday. The event was organized as a part of the Swarnarekha Mahotsava held annually under the aegis of Yugantar Bharati. The purpose of the event is to conserve environment and prevent river pollution.
The chief guest of the programme was the Managing Director of JUSCO Ashish Mathur. The programme was presided over by the state Food Supply and Parliamentary Affairs Minister cum MLA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Rai. Rai is also the chairperson of Damodar Bachao Andolan.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai pointed out the issue of pollution of rivers and stressed the need for fighting against the same. He said that the environment could be not be conserved and development process could not be sustained for long unless and until the rivers were conserved.
He appealed to everyone to be a part of the movement to prevent the rivers from becoming victims of selfish human industries and appreciated the role of Yugantar Bharati members in the campaign to save Swarnarekha, Kharkai and many other rivers of the region.
At the beginning, the welcome speech was given by the outfit treasurer Ashok Goel who defined the objectives of the discussion. A vote of thanks was proposed by Anand Kumar, editor of Yugantar Prakriti, the monthly magazine of Yugantar Bharati. The programme was conducted by Manoj Kumar Singh.
