Ranchi: In a pioneering move, the bustling Albert Ekka Chowk in the heart of the capital is set to host the country’s first-ever round foot overbridge, a visionary project estimated at Rs. 18 crores. The foot overbridge, assigned to the BRBA Company from Alipurduar, West Bengal, is scheduled to be completed within six months, signaling a landmark development in urban infrastructure.
The unique design of the round foot overbridge, encircling Golambar at Albert Ekka Chowk, aims to not only enhance pedestrian safety but also redefine the aesthetic appeal of the area. The ambitious project involves the construction of a dedicated platform for the statue of martyr Albert Ekka, positioned at the center of the Chowk, before its relocation to the newly crafted space.
The innovative structure will feature attractive lighting installations encompassing both the top and bottom sections of the foot overbridge, promising a visually stunning addition to Ranchi’s urban landscape. While a similar round foot overbridge exists in Kolkata, Ranchi’s project distinguishes itself by addressing the crucial need for a safe pedestrian crossing.
Beyond its aesthetic significance, the round foot overbridge aims to alleviate the persistent issue of traffic congestion at Albert Ekka Chowk, providing a safer alternative for pedestrians who, until now, had to navigate the busy thoroughfare risking their lives.
