Injured police jawan dies, DGP pays tributes

Jamshedpur : The police jawan, Dukhiya Murmu (30) who was shot and critically injured in an encounter at Mosabani on Sunday evening, died at the Tata Main Hospital’s critical care unit around midnight.

A constable (No 2561) in the East Singhbhum district police, Dukhiya had been shot at in the head and had fell critically injured.�

A guard of honour was given to the slain jawan at the Golmuri police line.� On this occasion, state director general of police, Rajeev Kumar put a floral wreath on the jawan’s coffin while expressing grief at the death of Dukhiya.

Notably, Dukhiya was fatally injured when there was an encounter took place between the naxals and police at Bikrampur near Bagjata uranium mines in Mosabani on December 18 evening. In the encounter, a rebel was killed and another sustained gun-shot injury.

Expressing his condolence, Kumar said Dukhiya’s sacrifice did not go in vain as he along with other jawans had successfully encountered the naxals and killed one of the enemies while inflicting bullet injury to another.

The DGP said that the state police authority have to enhance the intelligence gathering mechanism soon. �

He said that the district as the police and para-military forces have worked tremendously to curb the naxal activities in Ghatshila and other naxal-infested areas. �

�Operation against naxalites were carried out effectively and in bordering areas particularly with Bengal and we need to be more vigilant on our side,� he noted.

“I do not claim that Maoist activities have been stopped up in the state. However, situation has improved to a great extent as we have been able to contain them,” he said.

He urged the policemen to remain alert as the rebel outfits reply more on guerrilla tactics and can attack anywhere anytime.

There had been an improvement in containing the naxal activities in the state and several naxals were arrested following the anti-naxal operation launched by the police, he said.

Inspector general, CRPF, Jharkhand RK Mishra, senior superintendent of police, East Singhbhum, Amol V Homkar and other senior officials were also present at the Golmuri police line.
