Jamshedpur, July 20: A two-month-old baby travelling with her parents died in a road mishap on Wednesday.
A resident of Laljora village in Patamda, Subodh Mahto was riding his motorbike with wife Sunita (26) sitting on the pillion carrying their two-month-old baby in her lap. Suddenly, the bike skidded off the road near Asanbani village, causing all the three to fall down.
Both Subodh and Sunita received little injuries on their hands, but the baby whom they were bringing to the MGM Medical College and Hospital for vaccination, died. The baby was thrown off from her mother’s lap and received grievous injuries from road.
The tragedy-stricken parents soon rushed their injured daughter and to the medical college hospital emergency where the doctor on emergency duty referred them to the paediatric department, where the baby succumbed to her head injuries within half-an-hour.
An official of paediatric department, MGM Medical College and Hospital confirmed about the baby’s death due to head injuries caused in the road mishap.
“The incident is really saddening. It was a two-month-old baby girl who had been referred from the hospital emergency for the treatment of the head injury. �But before we could decide what to do with the injured infant, she died,” said he said.
Subodh who is a farmer was reportedly in a hurry�as he was supposed to go for cultivation after finishing the vaccination of her only daughter. �He said they were taking the daughter for DPT, polio and other vaccinations which were to be administered as per the doctor’s advice.
�I am in state of shock as everything happened in sudden. I wanted to get my daughter vaccinated at MGM Medical College and Hospital. �
As the bike skidded off the road, my wife lost balance and could not hold the baby in her lap,” said a shocked father adding that he was in a hurry to return to his village for land cultivation work.
